Currency
The official currency of Germany is the euro (€).

Credit cards
Major credit cards are widely accepted, please always check beforehand.
It is advisable to carry at least small amounts of cash, e.g., in order to pay for a snack or for public transport.

Exchange of money
Money can be exchanged at banks. Exchange offices can also be found at the airport and at the larger train stations, e.g. Heidelberg Main Station:

Electricity Supply
Like in most European countries, in Germany the version of electricity is generally supplied at 220 to 230 volts. The quantity available depends on the hotel or home where you are staying. Two-wire-plugs are used (see electricity world standards and look for socket type C and F).
You might require a simple adapter which can be purchased at most airports.

public transport system

The public transport system in Heidelberg is called VRN. The customer service centre is located in Kurfürsten-Anlage 62 (at Heidelberg main station)

ticket categories for Heidelberg
single ticket: starting at 2, 10 € each
discounted multi-trip card with 5 single tickets: starting at 1, 86 € each
ticket 24: starting at 5, 20 € each
ticket for 3 days: starting at 13, 00 € each

single ticket: This ticket is valid for only one trip in one durection, but breaks are possible within the duration time. No detours, round trips and returns are allowed.

ticket 24: There is no limit as to the number of times that you use the public transport. The ticket is valid for 24 hours starting the time of cancellation.

ticket for 3 days: There is no limit as to the number of times that you use the public transport. The ticket is valid on the day of cancellation as well as on the two following days.

fare stage 0: 60 minutes
fare stage 1: 60 minutes
fare stage 2: 90 minutes
fare stage 3: 180 minutes
fare stage 4: 180 minutes
fare stage 5: 180 minutes
fare stage 6: 360 minutes

purchase of tickets
There are different points of sales. In order to find the nearest point of sale please click here.
Tickets can also be purchased at ticket machines. Ticket machines can be found at nearly every stop, at least at the central junctions, e.g. main station and Bismarckplatz. Most ticket machines are in German only.
Tickets can also be purchased on the bus (ask the driver). However, this is not possible in trams!

Please note:
Tickets need to be cancelled when getting on the bus or tram (use cancellation machines). Exception: You already bought a cancelled ticket. The ticket 24 and the ticket for 3 days only need to be cancelled once.
